Technical Corner is the venue for the nuts and bolts of laboratory endeavors. A primary goal is to be able to help others to break through technical barriers in their research. We also would encourage our members to submit synopses and internet links on new technology that would be of benefit and of interest to others. One expectation here is that those who have acquired sophisticated instrumentation can make it available to other members for evaluation in their own work.

CCN Literature follows the knowledge base in the CCN field but importantly it provides the venue to include any presentations that have been delivered in a formal manner by our membership and also by others known to be working in the field. Thus we encourage submission of abstracts and other short reports presented at meeting so that a comprehensive catalogue of the CCN field can be constructed.

Private Sector Contributions acknowledges that all of us who work in universities, research institutes and hospitals or private institutes are, if not outmatched, at least equivalently balanced by a very large industry component. It is also remarkably clear these days that a significant fraction of basic and R&D research emanates from industry whose contributions to the scientific literature are now substantial. Furthermore, more and more academia-industry links are being forged. Thus we feel that our partners in industry should have a section devoted to their voice. We also hope that the private sector would feel encouraged to support academic endeavors and technology initiatives.
Positions section addresses the needs of the membership to search for new staff and to establish collaborations through exchange of trained personnel. Importantly, it allows trainees in the laboratories to put out their own feelers for possible positions and a way of indicating their career aspirations. We encourage our senior scientists to help direct the careers of these future independent investigators.
Links is the gateway to other internet sites and information. There are many excellent sites developed by other scientific societies and institutions that could be linked to the CCN website. Any input into developing this section is warranted since it would allow us to develop a broad catalogue of resources to the benefit of everyone. Other journals have already been proactive in field testing many sites, so that a brief assignment of the value of the site, whether your own evaluation or previously reported, would be most helpful. We suggest using a 4**** ranking system to indicate its usefulness.

In summary, the CCN Newsletter serves the membership of the International CCN Society. As an online publication any contribution goes a long way. We look forward to receiving your contributions.

CCN NewsletterFormat

International CCN Society Events: A tableau to keep membership apprised on upcoming meetings, workshops, and the achievements and recognition of members. Changes to member affiliations and career status would be noted. This section is linked to the listing of members.
CCN Newsletter Communications: Synopses of recently published papers, papers published ahead of print, and commentaries on such papers are invited. Short reviews/commentaries on CCN family of genes and proteins are welcome, as are discussions on any other aspects pertaining to the field. Pdf file format and downloads are encouraged.
Technical Corner: The Technical Corner functions as a forum for offering advice on methodological issues, a chat room for resolving technical problems and a means of bringing to everyone's attention recent technical advances.
CCN Literature: This section would track papers, book chapters, and presentations in the CCN literature. This section serves as a library for access by members and a means of documenting advances in the CCN field.
Private Sector Contributions: This section creates an opportunity for the private sector to present their involvement in investigations of the CCN family of genes and proteins. This section would also serve as a means to interest members in possible academia-industry collaborations and to present possibilities for sponsorships of meetings, workshops and other educational initiatives.
Positions Sought and Available: This section is reserved for placement of notices about trainee and post-doctoral positions that have or will become available in members' laboratories. Prospective candidates would be given appropriate contact information.
Meetings and www. Links: This section updates members about upcoming meetings and provides cybernet information of interest to the membership.

ANNOUNCING : CELL COMMUNICATION AND SIGNALING
A Journal sponsorded by the International CCN Society

Welcome to Cell Communication and Signaling
Editor-in-chief
Bernard Perbal, Université de Paris

Cell Communication and Signaling is an open-access online journal to be launched soon by BioMed Central. The site is currently under development.
Cell Communication and Signaling will encompass all aspects of the identification of receptors, ligands, and other biomolecules participating in the outward and inward cellular signaling pathways in normal conditions and their alterations in pathological conditions. Cell-cell, cell-matrix, and cell-environment interactions often modulate or even override programmed patterns of cell behavior. In this respect, signaling is critical for normal cell growth and development and abnormal signaling pathways have been associated with several human diseases. Reports of studies encompassing morphological, biochemical, molecular and physiological approaches, as well as innovative in vitro models that facilitate investigation of cell networks and cell behavior are strongly encouraged. The journal will be devoted to the publication of original papers, reviews and comments.
Cell Communication and Signaling is a peer-reviewed journal. The articles it publishes will be freely accessible.

The Cell Communication and Signaling journal has enlisted the services of an editorial board with a broad expertise in the areas of cell-cell communication, cell signaling, and cell matrix interactions. Members of the editorial board conduct strong research programs into many aspects of normal and pathological tissue and cell functions. The Editors of Cell Communication and Signaling will make every effort to fulfill the mandate of the journal. The Editors promise to facilitate unbiased and critical reviews of submitted manuscripts and will strive to expedite communication of work that is original, scientifically sound and thought provoking. The Editors invite feedback and constructive criticism that will help to bring recognition to the Cell Communication and Signaling journal and to promote the journal as a preferred medium for communication of work in the field.
